Claim: "It's why they assassinated Charlie Kirk. That's what they want. They want the fear." Verdict: false (truth score 0.08).
From Bannon's War Room, Episode 5719, "Globalists Flood Smalltown America With 3rd World Invaders" (October 7, 2026, US time, at 40:53). Our transcript does not name the speaker, and we do not attribute the line to Steve Bannon.
In the segment, "they" means progressive advocacy groups and the leaders of the Democratic Party. Part of the claim is true. Charlie Kirk's killing on September 10, 2025, was political. Utah Governor Spencer Cox called it a "political assassination." Prosecutors say Tyler Robinson targeted Kirk for his political views, and they are seeking the death penalty. The strongest steelman is the climate argument. In an NBC News poll, 61% of respondents, including 54% of Democrats and 73% of Republicans, said extreme political rhetoric was an important contributor. But saying a climate contributed is a different claim from saying "they assassinated him."
The record points to one person. Robinson is the only person charged. In September 2026 he was bound over for trial alone. Cox said investigators believe he acted alone. Discord's internal review found no evidence that he planned the attack on its platform. Stephen Miller spoke of "the organized campaign that led to this assassination," but he named no organization and showed no link, and no official has done so since.
We trace how this kind of claim grew in our archive. First it was "someone on the political left" (mixed, 0.40). Then it was "political actors" (mixed, 0.45). Now it is "they… want the fear" (false, 0.08). The evidence stayed the same and there is still one charged defendant, but the claimed author got bigger each time. We call this a prosecuted particular: one person's prosecuted act restated as something a group did.
Still open: whether the trial brings out anything beyond the preliminary-hearing record, and what the FBI concluded about the 20+ Discord users Director Kash Patel described. We found no public close-out.
