Louder with Crowder said 12 to 20 million people entered the US illegally under Biden in three years, then settled on 15 million. We rate it mostly-false, truth score 0.20.
The actual record is still historic: an unauthorized population that went from 10.5 million in 2021 to 14 million in 2023 — the largest two-year rise ever recorded, and about a quarter of the claim's floor.
In this 18:44 episode we take the claim at its strongest before we land on it. The House Homeland Security Committee's own factsheet counts 10.8 million nationwide encounters since FY2021 plus roughly 2 million known gotaways — about 12.8 million, the only arithmetic route to “12.” But those are events over four fiscal years, not people over three: in the first nine months of FY2021, CBP recorded 1,119,204 encounters and only 690,718 unique encounters, and roughly one in three encounters through April 2022 was a repeat crosser. Roughly 4.6 million people were removed, returned or expelled under Biden. More than 900,000 arrived on scheduled CBP One appointments at ports of entry, which is not illegal entry.
Then the segment does the move that matters: “let's call it 15 million… in this country, illegal under Biden.” 15.8 million is the highest defensible estimate for every unauthorized resident in the United States, most of whom arrived long before 2021. Right magnitude, wrong quantity. A demographic condition acquires an author, a date and a betrayal arc.
One thing nobody can settle: no agency publishes a count of unique people who crossed illegally and stayed. Every figure here is an event count, a modeled residual, or a survey estimate. The ~2 million gotaway number is produced by the agency whose performance it measures, and the legal status of the CBP One and parole cohorts has been in litigation since 2025.
